When uploading video from a minidv does the video fil split itself? Or does it upload as one huge video file?

I have recently bought a Sony HVR-A1U and have yet to test or tweak with it because I am waiting on my video machine to be built and shipped. But I was curious as this is my first camera that uses this format I wanted to know how do the uploading work? I am moving from a Sony DCR-200 where it was all digital and the files uploaded right to mp4 files split based on time of recording. But I noticed the minidv works like a VCR tape, does that mean it uploads in one large chunk if you were to record say a 30 minute clip?
