Why did my parents leave their child alone for a week?

I'm 17 and my brother is 10. My parents already left and their coming back in a week and I guess they expected me to watch him but they didn't get the memo because I'm going over my BF house to do fun stuff for a week. So they left him alone for week, I guess he can fend for himself.
